Frequently asked questions
How is text turned into binary?
Each character is stored as one or more bytes, and each byte is shown as eight zeros and ones. The letter A is 01000001.
What about accents and emoji?
The tool uses UTF-8, the standard on the web. Characters outside plain ASCII use two to four bytes, so one emoji gives several codes.
How do I decode binary?
Choose Code to text, pick Binary and paste the bytes separated by spaces. Each code must be a number from 0 to 255.
What is the difference with Base64?
Binary, hex and decimal show every byte on its own. Base64 packs bytes into a shorter text. For that, use the Base64 tool.
