What is a URL slug?

Hyphens or underscores?
Use hyphens. Search engines treat a hyphen as a space between words, while an underscore joins words together.
How long should a slug be?
Short and descriptive, about three to six words. Leave out small words like 'the' and 'a' if the meaning stays clear.
What happens to accents?
Letters like é, ü and ñ become e, u and n. Characters that cannot be converted, such as emoji or Chinese characters, are removed.
