Frequently asked questions
Which barcode type do I need?
Use Code 128 for general labels, shipping and inventory. Use EAN-13 or UPC-A for products sold in shops: those numbers are assigned by GS1, the organisation that manages product numbers.
Will a shop accept my EAN code?
Shops expect numbers that are registered to you. The tool makes a correct barcode for any number, but only registered numbers are unique to your product.
What is the check digit?
The last digit of an EAN or UPC number is calculated from the others, so scanners can notice mistakes. Enter 12 digits for EAN-13 (11 for UPC-A) and it is added for you.
PNG or SVG?
Use SVG for print, because it stays sharp at any size. Use PNG for screens and documents. Leave a white margin around the code and print it large enough to scan.
