How to Rotate PDF Pages and Save Them Permanently
Updated October 2026
A scanned page that is sideways is annoying to read. Many PDF viewers let you turn the view, but the file itself stays the same, so the page is sideways again the next time you open it or send it to someone. To fix it for good you need to save the rotated version.
Rotate and save in four steps
- Open the Rotate PDF tool and choose your PDF.
- Pick the rotation: right, left or upside down.
- Rotate all pages, or enter the pages you want to turn.
- Download the new PDF.
The rotation is stored in the downloaded file, so it opens the right way in every PDF reader, on every device.
Which direction should I choose?
- The page lies on its left side, so the top is on the left: rotate right.
- The page lies on its right side, so the top is on the right: rotate left.
- The page is upside down: rotate 180 degrees.
If you are not sure, try one direction. The original file is not changed, so you can simply start again.
Rotate only some pages
Scans often mix pages: most are fine and a few are sideways. Untick the option to rotate all pages and enter only the page numbers you want to turn. Pages you do not list stay as they are.
If a page is not needed at all, remove it instead.
Viewing versus saving
| Method | Changes the file? | Still turned next time? |
|---|---|---|
| Rotate the view in a PDF reader | No | No, it turns back |
| Rotate and save with this tool | Yes, the rotation is stored | Yes |
Rotating does not affect quality. Only the direction of the page changes, and the content is not compressed again.
Privacy
The PDF is processed in your browser and is not uploaded, which makes it a sensible choice for scanned contracts, forms and other personal documents.
